Last month's issue: Are BI Vendors About to be Gobbled Up?

A Shortcut to Data Integration?

Sorry, no shortcuts for data integration here. IT Business Edge recently asked me three questions on helping customers address data quality issues, which many companies tend to avoid addressing in the first place.

  1. You've written that a lot of IT groups seem to feel data quality problems are so overwhelming that they just give up. Is there an alternative?

  2. Could you talk about some of the challenge of matching business metrics to source metrics?

  3. Will problems associated with regulatory compliance help sell the concept of data quality to upper management?

Which will become pervasive, CPM or BI?

What do you think about the arguments on whether Corporate Performance Management (CPM) rather than business intelligence (BI) will become pervasive in the future?

It sounds like apples and oranges to me. CPM is a business application or process while BI is a technology.

The BI Vendor Gobbling Continues

I started using Oracle twenty five years ago. Twenty years ago I started developing data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.

More often than not, Oracle was the database that was used for the data warehouse over the years. I have always championed their top-tiered database but lamented why Oracle could not build or acquire a top-tiered data integration or business intelligence tool.

Oracle changed that situation October 10 by acquiring Sunopsis SA.
